About
That Peacock...
From another
email: “Peacocks are natives of India and are an exotic animal in this country.
Several peacocks have been brought to North Stonington and abandoned by their
owner. Abandonment of an animal is a form of animal abuse and not something
a responsible person would do.
“The found peacock mentioned in the ad is a feral female from last year's brood. Because
it is now peacock breeding season, the alpha hen drove the young hen from her
territory. This young hen sometimes is accompanied by her young brother who
does not have an adult tail yet. They come and go as they please and roost
very high in trees at night. They eat black oil sun flower seeds, cracked
corn, a few grapes, and some other fruits, berries, insects and flowers. If
frightened, they will squawk and fly to the highest nearby perch, often the
top of a house roof or garage. They have several different sounds that they
make including when the call to each other to identify their location. They
are afraid of dogs, curious of cats, and will NOT attack humans as a rooster
is apt to do. They will, however sometimes attack their reflection "thinking" that
the bird they see is competition. Peacocks will survive in the winter if they
are fed regularly.
“Arrangements have been made with the person who reported finding this treasure.
Thank you for reporting your find and thank you NSBB for being such a great
service.”
Recent email: “We have a peacock who showed up Friday afternoon and has stayed all weekend. I am sure someone in town is worried about their pet. The bird is on Wyassup Road.” Send an email to me at the bulletin board if this is your bird and I will put you in contact with the poster.

We have two nice cats that have been visiting for the last month. They do not appear to belong to anyone. We are in the Rt 49/Reuteman Rd/Hangman Hill Rd. area. One is an orange tiger kitten with white chest and paws and a notch in his right ear. The other is a medium sized black longhair with green eyes. We already have 4 cats or they could stay here. I hope we can find their real homes soon! Diana Hunt 860-599-8753
