Connecticut Invents
Monday, March 22nd, 10:30 am
Wheeler Library
Presented by the Museum of Connecticut History
The Connecticut Invents! program celebrates Connecticut inventors and inventions while letting the kids become inventors themselves. Participants will be introduced to many famous and not so famous Connecticut inventions from the last 200 years, including the Colt revolver, the... toothpaste tube, Frisbee, tape measure, Wiffleball, can opener, submarine and many more. Hands on activities will allow the young inventors to create their own Connecticut invention using simple materials such as straws, tape, pencils and paperclips. Pre-registration required. For children 6 to 10 years old. A second session will be held at 1:00pm if the first session becomes full.
This program is funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut.

Nicholas Bellantoni will be sharing his findings from his recent trip to Russia where he investigated forensic evidence for the Hitler Story. Nicholas Bellantoni is an anthropology professor at UConn as well as the state archaeologist at the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History. Program and refreshments are free and open to the public.

Wheeler High School’s Class of 2011 is hosting the 2nd annual Community Volleyball Tournament on April 1st at 6pm. Come to the Wheeler gymnasium support the local community groups and school system. Admission is $2 to watch the tournament.

Connecticut 'Wood Chipper Case')
presented by Dr. Edward Bartick
Learn about the tools and methods used in forensics. Dr. Bartick directs the Forensic Science Program at Suffolk University and is highly regarded in the field. This program is funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut.

Spring Wool Crown Making with Juli Mancini
We will be making crowns out of organic materials such as twigs and wool. These crafts are specifically designed to allow your child to make a non-throw away craft, utilize natural and renewable materials, and explore total creative freedom. Please pre-register with payment for this class (maximum of 10 students). For children 4 to 8 years old.

Welcome Springtime Storytimes
It's time to start thinking about the signs of springtime! We'll read some
books about tulips, eggs, chicks, ducks, and bunnies. Then we'll make a
craft to decorate your home for the arrival of spring!

Chicks and Eggs with Julie Mancini
This class is a combination of wet and dry felting. We will apply our basic
felting experience to wet felt a hollow egg, which will then be cut open
to snugly fit a needle felted chick which we will also make in class. This
class is for those who have wet felting experience or have taken the basic
wet felting class. Materials included.
Please pre-register for this class (maximum of 12 students).

Basic Computing
This beginner's class is for those who wish to learn their way around Windows.
The concepts taught in this class will work for all the commonly used versions
of Windows from XP to 7.0. Skills covered in this class will include: using
the mouse and keyboard, copying and pasting text, common menus and toolbars,
an overview of computer hardware, and a brief discussion on safe computing
tools such as anti-virus programs. For North Stonington residents and pre-registration
is required. This program is funded by a grant from the Community Foundation
of Southeastern Connecticut. Free!

Retired Chief Justice Frank Williams Speaks on Abraham Lincoln
In his presentation, "Lincoln at Two Hundred" Retired Chief Justice Frank Williams of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, a noted Lincoln scholar and author, will discuss Lincoln in American memory as we continue to celebrate Lincoln's bicentennial. Chief Justice will also comment on the many new books emerging on Lincoln's life and his place in American history and culture. Following his presentation, Chief Justice Williams will participate in a question and answer session which should be lively. All are invited, for middle school age to adult.
